5 is your complete Web imaging toolbox. Intuitive tools and unmatched
ease-of-use let you create Web graphics like a Pro. Includes: Component
Designer; Interactive Rollovers and Buttons; Image Optimization; GIF
Animation, and Image Slicing. (There is a bit of a learning curve
on this program, or at least you MUST look at the book. I tried to
use PI 4, without reading the book and it was nothing like PSP. It
had some really nice features though, and I did buy it after trying
the demo. There are lots of tutorials out now which there were not
then.)

Slicing/Dicing Graphics
- ShoeString's
Picture Dicer — PictureDicer is a Freeware tool that chops
any image file into several smaller images, suitable for creating
mouseover effects and pseudo-imagemaps on Web pages. It also generates
the HTML for a table to contain the partial images and display them
so they appear as the original uncut image. This version will accept
and output Windows .BMP, .DIB, .GIF, .JPG, .PCX, .TGA and .TIF files.
Support for Progressive JPEG may appear in a future Shareware version.
- Splitz —
Splitz! is a free program, and allows you to split any
image into rectangular parts and export the resulting images along
with the HTML table that puts them back together. This allows the
webmaster to create slices for mouseover effects and offers an alternative
to imagemaps. It supports many image formats and includes smart JPEG
compression as well as basic color balancing filters. (I have not
used this, but have heard good things about it!)
