- What is Copyright Protection? Copyright on the Internet is a little tricky. The main
problem centers on the nature of the browser itself.
Basically, if you can see it in a browser window you can
download it to your hard drive. That doesn't mean that your
can legally use what you download but the fact that content
is easy to take off of the Web makes violating copyright so
simple that many people do it without even knowing. This site
is a very good introduction to the concept of copyright
protection where visitors can learn what items are covered,
how to avoid breaking the laws and what you can do to protect
your own publications. (Another must visit site. Any one of us are vulnerable to those that are too lazy to do their own work and come around to lift ours! We need to know our rights and how to protect ourselves!)
- Copyright in the Electronic Environment I think this site would be of interest to most of us. It states general guidelines for fair usage. Colleges and Universities were among the first institutions
on the Internet and continue to be major sources of a wide
variety of content. Educators and students use the Web, among
other things, to exchange information, publish papers and
develop study aids. Because they rely so heavily on the Web
these people are particularly vulnerable to copyright
infringement. (This site is a must visit! Though it's aimed at students and teachers there's plenty here for anyone
interested in publishing on the Web.)
- Intellectual Property Law Web Server This site is presented by the law firm of
Oppedahl and Larson LLP, Patents.com is a detailed and
extensive resource for those interested in learning about
copyrights, patents, computer law, Internet law, trademarks
and intellectual property. For those really interested in maintaining copyright, check out the 'Intellectual property resources on the
Internet' section for a huge list of links to other
authoritative Web pages. (This page is a gold mine of information!)
- A History of Copyright in the U.S.
US copyright law has a long and interesting history. Visit this site and learn how its roots go back to British parliamentary proceedings dating to
1710. Many of the entries are hyperlinked to other relevant documents.
